Episode: St. Croix Mussels

Matt Berg and his students from Grantsburg are diving into research in the headwaters of the Saint Croix River in Douglas Co. They received a grant to study freshwater mussels and at the same time determine water quality. Berg told In Wisconsin Reporter Liz Koerner, mussels are like a "canary in a coal mine" because, if the mussels aren't doing well, everything else in the food chain suffers.
