Madison-based Ida Jo began playing the violin as a seven-year-old in her hometown of Duluth. She took her classical training at UW-Madison and turned it on its head by updating an old mountain fiddle technique called "chopping," a percussive, intense style of playing. Her range is vast and aggressive and includes Texas swing as well as most Celtic genres.
